Advanced Technology at Bristol Honda

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) ? number one in the MSN poll ? and Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) are both available in the latest Honda Accord along with a whole host of other safety technologies.

The new Accord was the first D-sector car to feature Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), while the previous generation Accord was the first in its class to bring LKAS to market when launched in 2002. Previously such technology was only available on more expensive cars in the sector above.

Slow speed auto-braking technology is available in the form on Honda?s CMBS which comes as part of the ADAS package on the latest Accord and CR-V. Sensors detect whether a collision is imminent and provide warnings and braking as necessary to warn the driver and lessen the severity of an impact. It works at speeds above 10mph making it suitable for driving around town as well as on motorways.

Of the most desired technologies only a few are readily available in the UK market, but Honda has designs on a number for the future too:

Intelligent Night Vision is already on sale in Japan in the Honda Legend. It uses two infrared cameras to detect heat-emitting objects and determine whether they are in the car?s path. The system also determines whether the object is a pedestrian. With Honda?s commitment to developing safety technologies hopefully it will be on sale on UK Hondas soon.

Active Front Lighting is available on the Honda CR-V and Legend which gives increased illumination and visibility at night. When cornering the headlights swivel up to 20 degrees to illuminate more road surface around a bend and minimise blind spots.

The CR-V?s Rear Parking Camera makes parking a lot easier. Fitted on all CR-Vs with Sat Nav, the camera comes into action when reverse gear is selected. However, Honda?s Smart Parking System, which automatically steers the car into the optimum position for parking, is also in the pipeline.
